Belgium approves Islamic veil ban.

April 30, 2010 — Belgium's lower house approve a proposal to ban the wearing of burqa-type dress in public places, a move that could make it the first country to enforce such a ban.







Muslims, academics and human rights groups have hit out at a looming public ban in Belgium on the full face veil, following a decision in the country's parliament to make the wearing of the article of clothing illegal.<aljazeeraEnglish>

NST ONLINE - 2010/04/30 | KUALA LUMPUR: A university dean wants the government to prevent newly-minted doctors from working abroad - unless they completed the minimum three-year compulsory service in Malaysia.

Professor Datuk Dr Lokman Saim, the dean of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Medicine Faculty and UKM Medical Centre director, made the call in view of the rising number of new graduate doctors intending to work in Singapore this year.

Anti-Islam Dutch MP- trial in October





THE HAGUE - Dutch far-right lawmaker Geert Wilders is set to stand trial in October on charges of inciting racial hatred against Muslims, the Amsterdam district court said on Tuesday.





ABNA.news - , THE HAGUE - Dutch far-right lawmaker Geert Wilders (picture) is set to stand trial in October on charges of inciting racial hatred against Muslims, the Amsterdam district court said on Tuesday.

“The trial of Mr Wilders will start in October,” the court said in a statement.

According to a preliminary schedule, the case is to be heard on October 4, 6 and 8, followed by judgment on November 2, it said.

Volcano ash: airfares to rise.

The crisis caused by the volcanic ash cloud and soaring oil prices are likely to add more than £30 to transatlantic air tickets this year, according to a think tank.

This would add £31 to an economy flight to New York on British Airways, taking it to £545, and £12 to the cost of a flight to Italy, taking it up to £239.

World's first full face transplant

The ground-breaking operation was carried out last month on a young man whose face had been disfigured in an accident.

While face transplants have been carried out in the past they have only been partial.

Doctors in Barcelona who performed the latest surgery said that it was the first full face transplant to be carried out anywhere in the world.

As well as skin tissue, the patient received new cheekbones, facial muscles, teeth, palate, skin, nose, lips and jaw.

The gruelling operation took 24 hours in total to perform on March 20.
