Mr Mugabe, 88, along with Michael Sata, the Zambian president, were honoured by the UN's World Tourism Organisation, when they signed an agreement in the no-man's-land on Victoria Falls Bridge.
The agreement will see the two countries co-host the UNWTO general assembly in August next year. It is not a formal position, although the UNWTO said Mr Mugabe would receive an open letter like other heads of state who have joined its tourism campaign.

Anonymous Hacks U.S. Department of Justice

Alex Fitzpatrick writes on Mashable: 23 may 2012
Anonymous is taking credit for a confirmed breach of security at the U.S. Department of Justice, although the exact contents of the data bounty are not yet known.
“Today we are releasing 1.7 GB of data that used to belong to the United States Bureau of Justice, until now,” reads an Anonymouspress release, referring to the Department of Justice. “Within the booty you may find lots of shiny things such as internal emails, and the entire database dump.”
The hacktivist collective has been known to make bold claims, but a Department of Justice spokeswoman confirmed to Reuters that Anonymous members did indeed access a server that hosts the Department’s statistical data, including cybersecurity records…

Turkey police break up education bill protest.

Demonstrators in Ankara protested a bill proposed by government that seeks to boost the influence of Islamic schools.

Similar demonstrations held elsewhere on Wednesday were also broken up by police [AFP]

Turkish police have fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse thousands of people protesting an education reform bill that opponents say will boost the influence of Islamic schools, a move seen as contrary to Turkey's secular constitution.

Police broke up the demonstration in Ankara on Thursday, ending a two-day standoff with protesters who wanted to march toward Parliament where the bill is being debated.

The government wants to overturn a 1997 law that kept students under 15 years old from attending religious "imam hatip" schools. That law led to a sharp decline in attendance at the schools.

A Reuters witness said protesters threw stones at riot police on Thursday as they moved in to break up the demonstration after refusing the group's request to march on parliament. There were further clashes in side streets.

Similar demonstrations held elsewhere in Turkey on Wednesday were also broken up by police.

Multi-lateral War Crimes Are Still War Crimes, No Matter Who Commits Them!

Protest NATO - Join us in Chicago in May 20/21 to take a stand against the war criminals with NATO!

By The World Can't Wait

May 16, 2012 "The World Can't Wait" -- The "North Atlantic Treaty Organization" (NATO) promotes its mission as “security, cooperation among nations, and peace keeping.” In fact, it is an organization led and dominated by the world's best-armed war criminals, led by the United States. The war in Afghanistan, ‘surged’ by Obama, is prosecuted under the NATO banner. Nighttime drone attacks have killed so many civilians there even the Karzai puppet government had to object. But civilian casualties are just so much collateral damage in a war of occupation, and the killing continues.

Led by the US, NATO is a military alliance of 28 countries that began after World War II in opposition to the Soviet bloc. After 9/11, the US invoked a provision of NATO’s Charter stating that, when a NATO member state is attacked by a non-member country, all member countries must come to the defense and aid of the country attacked. But no country attacked the US, certainly not Afghanistan, far from the North Atlantic.
“To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole."  The Nuremburg tribunals that tried Nazi military and political leaders established that principle, which the US-led NATO violates on a daily basis. Ten years after it was initiated, the aggressive war in Afghanistan is far from over and deadly drones now kill hundreds in Pakistan and Yemen as well.
The US and its key European allies have re-purposed NATO to dominate the globe
Today the countries in NATO account for 75% of the world's military spending. NATO provides cover for US and allies’ aggression and occupations in Libya, spreading into Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia, and now threatening Syria.  And who can forget the 38,000 NATO/US bombing runs over Kosovo in 1999?  These are promoted as “humanitarian interventions” but civilians in targeted countries suffer torture, rendition, murder, night raids against civilian populations, indefinite detention without charge or trial and targeted assassination by unmanned drones. Member countries of NATO thus perpetrate the supreme war crime of aggressive war against the people whose countries it bombs, invades and occupies.

Visible Protest Needed! The US-led NATO military machine is carrying out illegitimate, unjust, and immoral wars on three countries. When we visibly protest in Chicago at the NATO meeting, we will show the world that people here do not accept the crimes carried out in our names by the principal NATO countries. International media must see thousands of us demanding that our governments stop committing these war crimes. Humanity and the planet come first.

The world in the last 200 years!

Uploaded by DailyKosia on Jun 29, 2011:

A Time-Lapse Map of Every Nuclear Explosion Since 1945.

Uploaded by aConcernedHuman on Oct 24, 2010 - Japanese artist Isao Hashimoto has created a beautiful, undeniably scary time-lapse map of the 2053 nuclear explosions which have taken place between 1945 and 1998, beginning with the Manhattan Project's "Trinity" test near Los Alamos and concluding with Pakistan's nuclear tests in May of 1998. This leaves out North Korea's two alleged nuclear tests in this past decade (the legitimacy of both of which is not 100% clear).

Each nation gets a blip and a flashing dot on the map whenever they detonate a nuclear weapon, with a running tally kept on the top and bottom bars of the screen. Hashimoto, who began the project in 2003, says that he created it with the goal of showing"the fear and folly of nuclear weapons." It starts really slow — if you want to see real action, skip ahead to 1962 or so — but the buildup becomes overwhelming.
